Application Process

  1. Before you apply

    • Carefully read this entire page before starting the application process.
    • Note that the Leap Apprenticeship Program application has two online components—the application itself and two essays.
    • Due to the high volume of inquiries, we’re unable to respond to questions that are already answered on this page. For additional questions about the program or application process, please contact us.

    General Guidance and Direction

    1. Check the location of your cohort; while you may be qualified, you may or may not be eligible, based on the location and residency requirements.
    2. You must be authorized to work in the country of your cohort location for the entire duration of the cohort.
    3. Confirm you are free from personal, professional, educational commitments for the entire duration of your cohort and apprenticeship dates.
    4. Confirm you completed/graduated from your studies more than 6 months prior to your application.
    5. Be prepared to show significant work experience in the pathway of your choice.
    • Allow enough time to complete your application.
      • Complete the application process ahead of the deadline.
    • Thoroughly review your application before submitting.
      • Proofread your application carefully. Once you submit your application, you will NOT be able to go back into the system.
    • Check that your essays are thoughtfully and carefully written.
      • Have a trusted third-party (e.g., friend, family member, instructor) review and edit them.
    • Review and update your LinkedIn profile.

      • Current authorization to work in the United States or residency in the country location of your cohort before the start of your cohort
      • Active top secret security clearance – Reston, VA positions ONLY

      • Ensure availability during the entire scheduled cohort of your pathway

  3. Interview

    Selected individuals will be invited to interview for the Leap Program
    • The interview process will consist of two 45-minute online interviews.
    • Interview questions will focus on the following areas:
      • Technical skills
      • Collaborative skills
      • Problem solving skills
    • Whiteboard coding is a standard part of technical interviews. Please come prepared.

  4. Apprenticeship

Migrating to LEAP Cloud is essential

LEAP Office V10 software has been incredibly successful software and I’m sure you have heard about the need to upgrade to cloud-based LEAP

Microsoft Office no longer compatible

The third-party technology which integrates with LEAP Office V10 has surpassed the technology that LEAP Office V10 was originally written in and soon, it will no longer be compatible.

New computers today include a version of Microsoft Office 2016 already installed. In fact, subscribers of Microsoft Office 365 can now only install Microsoft Office 2016 desktop applications from the website. It is also expected that Microsoft Office 2019 will be released towards the tail end of this year.

Much of the technology and components used to drive the automation between Microsoft Outlook and Word in LEAP Office v10 is either no longer supported, or is in the process of being deprecated by Microsoft.

MYOB no longer compatible

Version 19.4 of the MYOB software, the only accounting software which integrates with LEAP Office V10, will be discontinued within the next year due to the ATO’s requirement for Single Touch Payroll reporting from July 2018. (MYOB have obtained an extension for clients using V19.4 until May 2019.)

Microsoft Windows updates may cause issues

LEAP has always worked to maintain backwards compatibility for as long as possible. Microsoft themselves however no longer test for backwards compatibility before releasing new versions. As Windows updates are released every day, and are for the most part installed automatically, new updates could conceivably halt the automation capability in LEAP Office V10, as it has done in the past.

LEAP Cloud is the only option

The only avenue now open to us to rectify the above scenarios, should they eventuate, is a full product rewrite. This has already been done. Our cloud-based LEAP uses the latest technology and we continue to invest in it to ensure it is as sustainable as possible.

Technology, by it’s very nature, outdates quickly and the stage has now been reached where the LEAP Office V10 technology is old and, for the reasons stated above, is approaching end-of-life.
