Thanks Frank for the timely reminder (it surprised me).

I do have one concern though.

  • Similar to the SAP GUI for Windows, this Java version needs to be downloaded and installed on your computer first. The unique difference of this version is that it is ‘platform independent’ – meaning that it can be used on 3 different operating systems: PC/Windows, MAC/iOS and even Linux.

With the delay in 7.60 to a tentative February, it seems a little unrealistic to give Customers less than 2 months to upgrade from 7.50 which is out of support in April to a brand new, not proven release that is 7.60.

e.g. Packaging of SAPGUI is not a trivial exercise in many enterprises. The need to fully regression test SAPGUI and hence customers preferring to do this change with support packages which are done infrequently at specific times of the year. Many enterprises wanting to wait a patch level or 2 before implementing new functionality.

All of this makes a month a crazy ask hence if 7.50 support can be extended another 6 months to accommodate the Visual Studio 2017 issues; that would be great.

Please note:

Sap Gui For Windows 7.50

  • SAP GUI and BEx Frontend must have the same version (for e.g. SAP GUI 7.40 fits to BI Add-On based on 7.40)
  • Its strongly recommended to use the latest patches of SAP GUI and BEx Frontend.
  • Office 64 BIT versions are NOT supported for BEx tools, see note 1995532.

2 - The installation includes:

  • SAP GUI for Windows 740
  • SAP GUI Patch
  • SAP BI Addon 7.0 for SAP GUI
  • BI 7.0 AddOn Patch for GUI
  • xPreCalServer (only for Precalculation Server)

3 - Preparing the installation:

  1. Download the Frontend-DVD from the SAP Service Market Place:

  2. Extract the Frontend-DVD ZIP file.
  3. Click here: Current BI ADDON for SAP GUI 740 to download latest patchs from SAP Service Market Place:
    • SAP GUI Patch,
    • BI 7.0 Addon Patch and
    • Precalculation Server (only for Precalculation Server)

4 - Installation steps:

  1. uninstall the Frontend and SAP GUI
    Windows > Start > Control Panel > Program and Features > remove
    - SAP Business Explorer
    - SAP GUI for Windows 7.x
    - SAP BW Preclaculation Service (only on Precalculation Server)
  2. make sure that that bw containing folders were deleted:
    - C:Program Files (x86)SAPBusiness ExplorerBI
    - C:Program Files (x86)SAPBusiness ExplorerBI_Prec (only on Precalculation Server)
    - C:Program Files (x86)SAPFrontEndBw
    - C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesSAP SharedBW
  3. restart the PC
  4. start the Front-End Installer from Frontend-CD:
    • folder: ..BD_NW_7.0_Presentation_7.40_Comp._1_PRES1GUIWINDOWSWIN32
    • file: SetupAll.exe
    • select/install ..
      [x] SAP GUI for Windows 7.40 (Compilation 1)
      [x] Business Explorer
  5. update to latest SAP GUI patch
  6. update to latest SAP BI AddOn patch
  7. install SAP BW Precalculation Service (only for Precalculation Server)
    • Folder: ..BD_NW_7.0_Presentation_7.40_Comp._1_PRES1BI_PreCalServer
    • file: SetupAll.exe
    • select/install ..
      [x] SAP BW Precalculation Service
  8. update to latest SAP BW Precalculation patch
